Day 2 and 3 with my tablet

It was a busy two days at work so I did not have that much time with my tablet. Since we are getting to know each other, I will start to call the tablet by its name, xoom.

Last night I used xoom to book a rental car from hotwire.com. This was done via the browser and since I have been on that site before it was pretty easy and worked as it would from a pc. Afterwards I spent a little time on Youtube via the app. The app is quite sluggish and often I am waiting for videos to load. I don't have a really fast connection but the wait was still longer that I expected. I only watched about 15 minutes but this took almost 30.

Writting blogs with the keyboard and mouse are great. I like the keyboard but wish it had a little tilt to it.  Xoom is great for reading so I fired up Google Currents and organized my library. Currents is like a magazine store. You can leaf through the topics by swiping and the app also has nice share features.

The first issue I had was yesterday when I wanted to check on my credit card account. I have an app and the first it asks is for user and password. I do not use the same password for apps so I had no idea what the password was. I save my passwords in an app on my pc. I was not able to login. I think I may look for a good password app for xoom. I just don't want to maintain two places to store passwords, so I need an app that I can use on both pc and android.

Thanks for reading,
Scott

Me and my tablet

I had this idea the other day about trying to use just my android tablet to do most if not all of my computer tasks for an entire week. I want to try to do everything other than my consulting work which I need a Windows PC. I am creating this blog with my Motorola Xoom and Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

I will use the tablet for reading email, checking twitter and facebook, looking for travel deals and coupons ofcourse look for restaurants and directions and writting this blog.

I will tell you what I did and what the experience was. Write off the bat I can tell you that writting this blog is going well. I am sitting in Starbucks with a hot Mocha Latte and the connection is good. I decided to use Google blogspot as my editor and it works very well in the default Honeycomb browser.

So here was a bit about day 1.

  • Packed up my goodies and headed to Barnes and Noble, found a spot and setup.
  • Read a little email and viewed a few tweets, I use the Plume twitter client.
  • I need to learn about Business Objects 4.0 IDT so I went to the SDN site and found a link for tutorials. It was great to see that they had posted all the tutorials to YouTube so I launched the YouTube app and subscribed. It worked as expected.
  • I watched IDT (Information Design Tool) videos for about an hour, again this worked great.
Tomorrow I need to find a rental car, so I will report back on that.

Question for whomever is reading this. If I used a remote control app (SplashTop Remote HD) to acess my laptop does that still count as only using the tablet. I will ponder that.

Goodnight from tablet'ville.

Just watched a few minutes of the Giants Cowboys game with NFL 2011. Unfortunately it was a scoring drive by the Cowboys.
